Building sites in Austin present unique challenges, including size constraints, strict municipal guidelines, and the need for tree preservation. Hillmont was no exception. The challenge was to incorporate an auxiliary dwelling unit on a site with limited space. We worked to develop a small-scale footprint with a big design impact. Through intentional site connections, like full-height windows and a retaining wall that carries from inside to out, the home feels tied to the outdoors, open, and inviting.
